Off-Grid Solar Panel and Energy Storage Installations

Requirements

This project required robust, high-capacity energy storage systems to optimize off-grid solar energy installations powering more than 100 remote Indigenous Australian communities. The intended power source would be exposed to harsh climate conditions and would need remote monitoring capability.

Solution

Multiple Sonnenschein® A600S batteries were installed to support the photovoltaic generator-powered systems to sustain an average of 30 to 40 people in each community. The power systems have been operating successfully since 2003. In 2006, Bushlight won Engineers Australia’s National Engineering Excellence Award.
